What Happened at BlogCon 2006?
Visited 686 Times Published by Rico September 26th, 2006 in Blogging, Philippines and What.First things first. Though I was on a list with Jayvee, Abe, Marc, and Noemi (you guys had to get our signatures to win a flash drive remember?), no way am I in their league. Jenny said the list was random. Something like that. Anyways, it was nice to meet old friends…
- Abe Olandres (YugaTech) - Spoke in front twice
- Jayvee Fernandez (A Bugged Life) - “Blog unto others…”
- Sasha Manuel (The Parody) - Apparently, we were on a date (mga intregero kasi dyan!)
- Gloria Gamat (Daragang Magayon) - A Creative Weblogging Kabayan, and my online ate!
- Bimbo Isidro (Vespinoy) - Ang kuyang kong kulit!
- Kevin Codamon (Kiven) - Gwapo ka naman with glasses ah!
- Gail Dela Cruz (Kutitots) - Masta designer!
- Markku Seguerra (rebelpixel productions) - Masta coder
- Anne Bailon (sencillez) - May blog ka pala?!?!
- Noemi Dado (Touched by An Angel) - Madam!
…and make some new ones:
- Juned Sonido (baratillo @ cubao) - I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: Like the theme
- Chris Lagman (Fire In The Gut) - Thanks for the pic!
- Marc Villanueva (marcvill) - Hubby-to-be of Gail
- Annalyn Jusay (Writings on the Wall) - Didn’t get to talk to her that much
- Marc Macalua (Macalua.com) - Has a laptop like mine!
- Christine Ocampo (Shobeceo) - Again, didn’t get to talk to her that much
- J. Angelo Racoma (The J Spot) - Him too
- Elber Cruz (driver ng bayan) - My blogging twin tower
- Ade Magnaye (Noisy, Noisy Man) - Wished I could’ve talked to you more
- Alan & Arlene Ocab (greatlinksevents) - Sayang, where was Arlene?
- Noel Bautista (simplythrifty) - Another Creative Weblogging Kabayan!
- Andrei Patrick (Eche…blah…blah) - Dude pare tol!
- Teng Mangansakan (Morofilm) - Congrats sa Flash Drive!
- Mike Villar (Dash Media / The Man Blog/ Rising internet Star) - Talked about Dash Media
- Peter Juan (Dash Media / The Man Blog) - Same here
- Marco Palinar (Dash Media / The Man Blog) - Also with him (nice design, can’t wait to see it executed!)
- Jun Asis (MabutingBalita.net and MagandangBalita.com) - Nice post on writing a life plan and focusing on your strengths btw.
- Mike Abundo (The Mike Abundo Effect) - Looked taller in person!
I’m very poor with names, so if I’ve missed out anyone, throw a fit and correct me! Thanks to Jayvee, Abe, Noemi, and Marc for their presentations! Thanks to Jenny & co. for the freebies: food, drinks, beer, and WiFi!
Thanks to Jayvee and Elber for the beautiful pics! Whew!
I’m not the only one who’s written about the BlogCon. Check out the Wiki for more info. So what did happen at BlogCon 2006?
- Arrived 30 mins late (coz I had to help out Jayvee with something), with a “cute girl.” (Her words!)
- Amazed by the sheer number of people.
- Tried to talk to as many people as possible.
- Talked with Gloria, something I’ve been meaning to do for a long time.
- Met Noel, a fellow Creative Weblogger, and discovered I was making him rich!
- Drank lots of beer, thanks to Bimbo!
- Listened to Abe’s, Jayvee’s, and Marc’s presentations.
- Talked to people some more.
- Cried when I didn’t win the flash drive.
- Talked to the people from Innove.
- Talked to the Dash Media people.
- Afterwards, went to the Mall of Asia for the first time with Abe, Elber, Jayvee Gloria, and Sasha!
- Brought Gloria, Jayvee, and Sasha home.
- Blogged for The Smart PDA.
- Hit the sack at 4:30 am.
So what did I learn from the whole thing?
- Philippine blogging has greatly grown. With the sheer number of people in the BlogCon, we’re a blogging power!
- The Moral of Reciprocity applies to blogging. To quote Earl, “do good things, and good things will happen to you.”
- There’s so much more for me to learn about blogging.
- Personal contact helps online relationships grow.
- Focusing on a niche (unlike what this blog does) and producing great content on it will show you the money.
I can’t wait for next year! ![]()

So, I’ve heard. Heh. I should’ve brought my own car and came with business cards so people will know that I am a pro-blogger and not just a “date”. Pffft. Don’t they know that I maintain 6 [and a half!] blogs?! Dammit.
Haha, maybe you should’ve listed all of them in the BlogCon wiki. Btw, Gail knows a friend who can print out calling cards for a low price. And as you know, I’m designing my business card. Wanna have ours printed together?
Ack. That last statement, er, question can fuel the intrigues more, Rico! Hahaha.
Nah. I’ll have mine when I’m already the “CMO”. Heehee.
About listing the blogs — It’s fine, really. I’m good. No need to do that. Hahaha.
akala ko nga date mo si sasha…=)
i hate glasses.lol.
Sasha: I’m sure people really consider printing business cards together an important step in a relationship. Lol.
CMO? CMO of what?
Sa bagay, maybe all those URLs will fill up your card, haha!
Kiven: So kung kasama mo si Misa Campo pagpasok sa next BlogCon, I’ll consider her your date ha!
Why do you suddenly hate your glasses? Sinusuot mo naman siya sa last meet ah!
Waaaah. Pati si Kiven! And I didn’t even get to meet him! Who else? Who else?!
Yes, CMO. Ha.
pare, kung ka date ko si Misa Campo e di na ako tutuloy sa BlogCon. =)
la lang i just hate wearing glasses. hehe
Sasha: Well, si Jayvee and Abe, for starters… even Gloria! Hahahaha!
What does CMO stand for again?

Kiven: Bakit naman? You’ve gotta share the wealth, kahit visual wealth lang.
Yeah, there’s only so much of me you can fit on a computer screen.
Hey there! Nice meeting you at the BlogCon. Hope to see you again in the next BlogCon!
Mike: You’re honestly one of the few people I know who are as big/bigger than me.
Ade: Great to see you too, nice post on avoiding the Christmas rush btw.
Anong Kuyang? sabagay, sige na nga! hehehe…
di kayo pwede magkadate ni Sasha, kasi UST sya hahahaha.
Sasha! Friends Forever! hahaha.
Hey Rico, it was really good to see you again dude. Hopefully next time we can meet in much better circumstances, like UST winning the UAAP Basketball Championship hehe.
Best regards dude!
Same here pre! Feel free to look at the post before this, and watch all the videos and look at all the pics.
Mwahahaha!
Di nga kami nag-dadate ni Sash! Ang kulit niyo!!!!
Salamat sa “libreng” beer (it’s da thought that counts), and enjoy Game 2. May the better team win!
Yay! I’ve found an ally in Bimbo! Wehehehe. You’re right. UST and Ateneo don’t really mesh. Hahahahahaha
Yes, Bimbo — friends na talaga tayo! Ha. Kelan ang inuman? Heehee.
Ano kaya sasabihin ni Rico pag natalo ang Ateneo? Muahahaha.
Oo nga kuya! When is the next free round?
We don’t need a BlogCon to have fun, ya know.
Basta Sash, whatever will be, will be.
Nice meeting you Rico!
Rico: was fortunate that you and Sasha sat with bimbo and me. And thanks for the compliment. Read your blog about Millie and you gave me an idea for a post. BTW, Neil Armstrong is my hero. I want to be an astronaut (and still do!).
Sasha: seriously, i thought you were a couple. you look great together. You have chemistry. What happens next is up to the two of you =)
Mike: i didn’t recognize u. I was imagining that you would come with your shirt unbuttoned, just like the pic in your blog. I’ll make it a point to shake your hand next time.
Kiven: Read your articles from the freebies. I’ve always wondered how much time you put in a game before you can make a review. Great writing!
Bimbo: basta yung suggestion ko: no brace tightening before blog meets =)
Alan: How about organizing a blog event. If your forte is bazaars, can we sell blog posts there? =) Nice meeting you kahit sandali lang tayong nag-usap.
I hope to catch up with you guys in the future.
hello rico, here’s ur online ate and intregera reporting. har har har!!!
glad to finally meet you and the whole gang of course.
internet connection here is shitty low. maybe the cyclone typhoon has something to do with it. so i better publish my entries due since yesterday bago kita intrigahin ng tuluyan. ha ha!!
hello Sasha!!
by the way rico, i stole 2 of the photos here. thanks.
bimbo: forgot to tell anyone ( even rico) that you remind me of my ex. ha haha!!! but i’m sure u are a much better man than he is. and that is a complement!
Alan: You too! See you sa next BlogCon! Jun says ur into bazaars?
Jun: I actually like your blog. Very positive yung outlook niya, something our country honestly needs!
Musta na si Raine?
Oh my gad, kamukha ni Bimbo ung ex mo?!?! Hahaha!
Gloria: Ganun talaga ung connection, kung di siya waterproofed maapektuhan.
Don’t thank me for the pics; Jayvee and Elber were da masta photoists!
On the business cards, I’m interested - not in the intrigue that Sasha mentioned, but just in the cards. I want to wait until I’ve got my own domain first, not to mention the drive-by idea we discussed.
Anyway, it was nice meeting you, as well as others at the BlogCon! See you when you decide to play futsal sometime.
Driver ng Bayan: Abe or I can help you with that, just give us the word, and everything will move.
What position do you usually play sa futsal?
Thanks Rico! I’m still trying to figure out how the whole site will look, and then I’ll work from there. I’ll keep you in the loop on this one. Let’s also work on the other idea you mentioned at Mall of Asia.
As for futsal, I play whatever is available. Since there are only five players a side including the keeper, the four fielders can usually rotate. I usually defer to the other people I’m playing with; I let them take their preferred position. Usually, they’re better at it than I am. I typically find myself, if you relate it to field football, in the midfield.
It was quite overwhelming . How could we possibly talk to everyone? Inspite of that autograph signing, I didn’t really get to talk to a lot of bloggers. sana we have more meets.
Hey Rico=)
My name is spelled with an O…as in Sorsi=P hehe=) Anyway, left my site here na so you can see what ‘personality’ the new site marc gave me should have. Haha=)
By the way, i remembered something the other day. When i asked you ‘weren’t you psych (like Kathy)’, you said, ‘hinde, IS lang ako’. LANG?? tsk tsk! not proud of your course=) Weren’t you with Kerwin before? I remember you were always with another tall guy. Kerwin is taking his shirt off now for cosmo.
It was great getting to meet you, but it is too bad we didn’t get to talk much. Being there was both a business and personal affair for me. But it’s more of business, though so I was very very busy. Sigh.
Gloria! You have a good taste in men hehehe joke lang.
Sasha. Inuman na! Kelan? Sorry I don’t drink Super Dry, kasi nagsawa na ako inumin yan back in the days na wala pang light hahahha….leche nabuko pa ako!
Jun, yup, no brace tightening before a blogcon! noted ser!
May the best team in Gold win later pare
Teka, sino kumuha ng San Mig Light ko?……WAITER!
driver ng bayan: I always find myself, like in any other sport, playing defender. I’m not athletic enough to be the go-to-guy, but I really love making it hard for the other side to score. Besides, I’m a big guy, and central defenders/sweepers are usually big, if I’m not mistaken.
It was really nice to see you again though!
Thanks for the link! I shall try to integrate your venus cut pic!

noemi: I’m sure Abe and co. have ideas fror next time to literally mix things up.
Sorsi: Ay sorry! Tama nga ung gut feel ko! *blush* Well, you have to admit IS isn’t exactly a course well-known for producing model students. I think nga I heard the department raised the minimum QPIs, kasi pangit talaga ung rep of the course; tambakan daw ng mga na tanggal sa ibang course!
Oh my God, you remember Kerwin Yap! Hahaha! I lost contact with that guy, but I heard nga he’s a model or something. Bakit? Natutuwa ka ba sa nakikita mo?
jangelo: Oo nga eh, 2-for-2 na taung di nakausap. Let’s change that for the next blog meet!
Bimbo: Tsk tsk tsk, I’m trying to be gracious (in victory, mwehehehe), and you trippin on me?! Anubayan kooya!?!?
33 comments? This weblog is popular!

Dude ayan na, nagwawala na si Sasha. Basta ako alam ko blogger sya, hindi lang date mo.
Some of your “Master Magic” just rubbed off on me. Mwahahaha.
Huwa?
Jun, eh wala nga e! Anuba. =P
Gloria, you too?! I thought we’re friends!

Next week, Bimbo! Hahaha. Go bring your Vespa to my side of the metro. Hehehehe.
Rico and Sasha sitting under the tree… k-i- ay wag ko na tuloy.
too bad i didn’t meet you guys. ate then split.
hey rico… just dropping by.
i’m sasha’s cousin so be nice to me - hahaha!
btw, ako din pasabay sa calling card
Yup, worked for Summit before Globe/Innove and got to work on Cosmo’s bachelor bash. Was shocked to see Kerwin Yap in nothing but NEON BRIEFS. As in bakat. And he was machodancing as well=P So your course produces fine young model students after all=P
hi there, thanx for being so nice at the blogcon, and also hope to have chat more with you ^_^
Ron: Hahaha, looks like you just enjoyed the free food!
Chris: WAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!
Cge, para magkakaroon ng negosyo ung kaibigan ni Gail (siya ung printer).
Sorsi: NEON BRIEFS?!?! BAKAT?!?! OMG!!! Now I won’t be surprised if I see him in Twilight Dancers, hahahaha!
And you’re the one saying na dapat di ko pinapa-”lang” ang IS!
Christine: Hey, it was nice to meet you too!
Sana nasa autograph signing ka ulit next time, hahaha!
Nice meeting you, Rico. Thanks for being such a nice and friendly guy. Next time ulit. =)
hahaha…korek, para feeling sikat, ;)…but seriously now, that autograph signing gave me a chance to meet a lot, sana nga makasama ako ulet, hehe
Next time try ko din mag-attend diyan sa blogcon
