Why Will I Never Use Twitter?

To hedge my bets, let me say that while I’m sure to succumb to Peer Pressure 2.0, I will never use Twitter because:

  1. Everyone will know what’s happening. I’m a private person, and the last thing I need is the whole world knowing about my day-to-day activities.
  2. White (and black) lies are easier to catch. I can imagine apologizing for being late because “something came up,” while my Twitter said I was “sleeping.” Oops.
  3. Requires regular updates. If you want visitors to take your Twitter seriously, you’ll have to post new snippets constantly. Unless you want people to think there’s nothing interesting going on in your life, right?
  4. Another online commitment. Sure, I don’t need to Twitter. But I suspect that if and when I get addicted to the service, I’ll end up narrating even my struggles in the bathroom, feeling the need to update every few minutes. Which means I’ll have to spend time satisfying my would-be Twitter fans.
  5. I’m verbose. You see it on this blog. I’m an SEO expert’s dream, because I usually write “the ball was kicked by the boy” instead of “the boy kicked the ball.” My Twitter posts might end up being too long to follow.

What do you think? Will Twitter become so indispensable that I’ll end up getting an account anyway?

Try Jaiku.com Outside of those reservations to microblogging, there are two elements that might be of value: conversation and lifestream. You can aggregate all your webfeeds and establish a lifestream at Jaiku - a single point of online presence. And each post is a starting point for conversation. Who knows… you might meet some interesting people. You can find me over at Jaiku. Hope to see you there.

I hope that you never will. I’d rather read your entries which you take the time to explain.

Neil Vineberg: Will check it out ASAP. Thanks for the heads-up!

AnP: Yes, I think explaining limits misunderstandings. So I take it you’re not into twittering too?

xtina: When you go to Manila, text Sash. We’ll take care of you. :)
