How Can You Make it Easier to Work in Windows?

By default, the taskbar on Windows (on the bottom by default) lists all your active apps as buttons in one row:

The taskbar lets you keep track of which programs are running, and makes it easy to switch them. Yet it becomes hard to see the name of your programs when many are running at the same time:

And if you let Windows group the buttons together, you’re forced to take the extra step of choosing from a menu:

But you can double the taskbar’s height, creating more space for your apps:

Or even triple it:

Increasing the available space on your taskbar makes moving between your applications so much easier. You also to get see more information other than the current time, as shown in the last screenshot.

My taskbar at work is double the height, because my quick launch bar is so long, and I have an address bar showing up. I’m too lazy to configure it because the set up still works for me. :)

I take a different route. I place the taskbar on the right side of the screen with a width of about 100 pixels. That way, all the app buttons are neatly stacked. And my quicklaunch has three columns.

I use the same deal as Eugene does. Much, much easier for me.

Tina: Whoa, why so many items on the quick launch?

Eugene and Ade: I tried that before, and it really is a lot easier, specially on them widescreen displays. But my messy mind needs to see more of the app’s title, so I know what I’m switching to.

At work, I have my taskbar on the left instead. With a 4×6 icon quick launch bar. It’s better for me this way since I have a 2560×1024 resolution desktop. :D
