How Do You Make Fun of MTV’s Pimp My Ride?

What’s Pimp My Ride? If you don’t know, crawl out of your hole, head over to the nearest and watch MTV. You can also check out this YouTube video (10 minutes).

And of course, like anything popular, Pimp My Ride has been spoofed (1:30). But Volkswagen has advertised its Golf GTI with a hilarious campaign, called “VDub,” which shows how to unpimp a ride. ;) Would you believe Prison Break star Peter Stormare is in it?! Videos after the jump.

Thanks to Leftlane News for posting these gems on YouTube. Would you believe these videos boast over 6 million views total?! :-o

I’m a fan of Pimp My Ride - I love most of the tech they put into their cars. On the other hand, I’m not a big fan of how they dress up the vehicles. Come to think of it, that description might bring to mind nerds (not geeks!) - loaded with gadgets but looking stupid.

Anyway, I don’t think I’m making sense right now. I’ll comment again when my brain is working right.

Oh, I almost forgot - those videos are funny. And I want a Golf GTI. I’ve wanted one for a few years now, but those ads just reminded me how nice it looks. Wow, a moment of clear thinking.

    Ok, moment gone….

I know what you mean. I’m more a fan of the sleeper (minimalist) look actually. I’d hate to drive a car full decals and clashing colors around town. You’re making sense, don’t worry! And yeah, the Golf’s great. It’s created a new vehicle class. Plus, several million Golfs have been sold around the world! :D

Speaking of sleepers. I’ve wanted an Evo for the longest time now. I want to replace the rear wing with a more discreet spoiler, possibly replace the bumper, and basically make it look slightly less agressive. I’m thinking of doing this on the Evo IV or the Evo VI.

The end product won’t really be much of a sleeper - I mean there’s no way it’ll be considered a wolf in sheep’s clothing. It will definitely look fast, but it just won’t look like an Evo. It’ll look like a very nicely dressed Lancer. As long as it’s parked, it’ll look like a souped-up Lancer - at least to those who don’t know better. Once it’s started though, the engine will give up its true identity.

I know performance will suffer a bit, but hey - when do we get to push our cars to the limit anyway?

Besides, I’ve rambled here long enough. This comment is longer than your post.

Replace the spoiler? Haha, just like in the third video: “Looks like it could fly.” I like what you plan to do with the Evo if you do get it, because I do find the spoiler and sideskirts(?) very conspicuous. It would still be a sleeper because its subtle; I really love making a statement that only people in the know would truly appreciate, instead of screaming to the world.

Yeah, I also wouldn’t mind losing some performance. Our highways aren’t big enough to merit cruise control anyways, ya think? And don’t worry about the long comments; I like discussions. :)

Those V-dub ads are some of the few TV ads I can watch and enjoy. I always laugh when I hear Peter Stormare using Hip-hop slang in the clips. “Oh, snap!”

Xzibit has also spoofed himself and his show on The Boondocks.

BTW, That tall, blond German woman is hot.

    Thanks for posting those clips.

I’ve tried driving on cruise control - I got scared. I admit to being a control freak, and one of the manifestations of this is my reluctance to give up any sort of control over my car.

On the sleeper - I like the way you put it. I also “love making a statement that only people in the know would truly appreciate.”

Semaj: What made it more hilarious for me was first seeing Peter Stormare in Prison Break as a tough Mafia boss, then suddenly seeing him play that wacky German engineer!

Btw, check out this MySpace page. I’m sure you’ll like it!
driver ng bayan: Haha, I wonder if this fear extends to other kinds of activity?
Yeah, and another thing I like with the sleeper look is that it makes other people “underestimate” you, know what I mean?

I’m sure it does - let’s leave it at that for now.

Exactly what I’m going for. Imagine this scenario:
    1) cruise on the highway
    2) let rice-boy zoom past you in his obviously-souped-up-but-not-really-worth-sh!t-rice-rocket
    3) when I feel like it, rev up just a little bit more - enough to give me more power, but not enough to make the car break a sweat, so to speak
    4) while driving alongside rice-boy, wave, yawn, yap on the phone, or basically show how bored you are
    5) watch rice-boy floor his accelerator and try to get in front of you
    6) watch him fail miserably
    7) when he’s squeezed everything he can out of his engine, step on the gas and drive away 8) once he’s just a speck in the rear view mirror, slow back down to cruising speed
    9) repeat

    Sounds like fun?

Couldn’t have said it any better. :) Aside from the GTI, what would be your dream car?

  10. 10 driver ng bayan

Not including the damn-the-cost cars, my top picks are:
    1) BMW 325i or 330d (M3 for damn-the-cost)
    2) Honda S2000 - is it available here?
    3) the old VW Beetle, but highly modified
    4) certain models in the Evo line
    5) something in the Range Rover line

    What are your picks?

  11. 11 Rico

Well, despite what the first ad, I’d get a Ford Focus. In fact, if I’m not mistaken, VW pirated Ford’s engineering team to design the GTI or something like that. I also like the Evo, but not the more recent ones. Hmmm… cguro yung Jeep Cherokee, but I’m not sure if that’s already under the damn-the-cost category.

  12. 12 Ron

honda s2000 was also one of my picks. but some dude got it ahead of me and let’s just say i hate his guts. (and no i don’t think its available here but in the states I was able to drive one though) so it has to be an aston martin for me (without the monetary restrictions)

you should try looking at the scion line. they have some pretty cool looking cars.

Scion line? Sorry, not that familiar with cars…
