What are Boholians?

Over the last few days, which I spent in Bohol with Sasha, Abe, Aileen, Gail, Marc, Sharmskee, and Chris, Abe kept on joking Chris that he needed to convert his money into “Boholians.” Which is totally ridiculous, since the province of Bohol doesn’t have its own currency seperate from the Philippine Peso.

There actually are Boholians, sheets of postage-stamp-like coupons that come in 1 and 5 peso denominations (as far as I saw). Aside from serving as receipts to prove that you paid the entrance fee for many of Bohol’s star attractions, I have no idea what they’re for. Well-designed though!

What’s that? I went to Bohol you say? Yep, and to Cebu too. Thanks to The Macalua, we enjoyed a four-day tour designed to highlight best of both areas. A little rushed thanks to limited time unfortunately, but it was great to break the monopoly of Bicol (where I studied for a few years), Baguio and Roxas City (regular family vacation spots).

Bohol was wonderful. There was simply a lot to do, like sunbathe on its wonderful white sand beaches, see the world famous Philippine Tarsier, check out the really old Baclayan church, and of course, enjoy the world famous Chocolate Hills. And much much more.

It’s too bad that we only stayed in Cebu for less than a day total. I would’ve loved to hang out with Kristine, Max (a friend of Aileen’s) longer. And check out the other parts of the city that don’t feature historical landmarks that remind us of our colonial past. Cebu has all the advantages of urbanization, with fewer of the problems associated with it (compared to Metro Manila at least).

All in all, it was a wonderful trip, ending on a high note with the 7th episode of the BoBCast. All photos were taken by and from the lovely Sasha.
