What Makes Me Say “It Feels Great to be Pinoy”?

I’m supporting Marc’s meme, inspired by Anton’s wonderful post, because it’s good to see that people are still optimistic about the Philippines. And I’ve also been tagged by Aileen. So to answer the question and hopefully perpetuate the conversation, here are three reasons why I feel it’s great to be a Filipino:
- More Filipinos are Blogging. Blogging is good, because it requires constant writing. And constant writing has a way of improving articulation. Which I believe is something many Filipinos need to learn. We have the message, the skills, and the talent. Now all we need to do is to tell the rest of the world about it.
- Filipinos Continue to Find Success Worldwide. Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao’s and Efren “Bata” Reyes Jr.’s sporting success aside, we also have Brandon Vera and Benj Arriola. Heck, we can even include Batista, who’s currently feuding with Undertaker for the WWE Championship. This tells me that Filipinos always have the potential to be great. All we need is the proper support and development.
- Bayani Fernando and Jesse Robredo. These two mayors, one who’s now heading the MMDA (and doing a great job at it) and another who’s been reelected four times, show that the art of good governance isn’t lost. They continue to be effective, despite the obstacles our patronage-based political system places in front of them.
It’s time to tag ten: Eugene, LJ, Jayvee, Abe, AnP, Gloria, Jonas, Kiven, Joey, and Markku. I can’t wait to hear what you guys have to say!
