It must be the cynic in me, but I always wonder why cruel and base acts continue to surprise people. It’s like everyone would prefer to not understand human nature, intentionally ignoring the fact that every one of us is capable of evil.

It’s so easy for me to understand the rationale behind the RCBC Bank Robbery, because I am aware of how evil we can be. As filipinovoices.com writes:

The killers’ calculus was simple and chilling: No witnesses, lesser chances of getting caught. And so they went about their grisly business, systematically slaughtering ten people, whose grim fate was sealed the moment the butchers stepped into the bank.

To truly respect the friends and families wronged by those cold-blooded killers, we should not be shocked by the fact that fellow humans are capable of such bad things. We should know ourselves—and our capabilities—better.

Rather, we should be shocked that in our supposedly modern and civil society, such evil acts are allowed to prevail. We should be shocked that, despite the brutality of the act, most of us are resigned to the fact that these men may never be caught.

People probably isn’t suprise by the concept of the perpetrators not being caught because they all know how sloppy our justice system and police work is.

As for me, I am truly shocked because killing those people isn’t a regular way of robbing a bank. And of course, the popularity of movies such as oceans 11-13, the italian job and others. No one gets killed except the bad guys in those movie.

Yes, our lives cannot be compared to those movies but what should we do? Should we let everyone watch movies about the holocaust, the tension in tibet, the war on terror for them to be desensitized?

Our current society, in my opinion, are not that open to the concept of men and his capability in doing evil things that is why they tend to be more shocked at the concept of the grisly murders that took place. Yet more open to the fact that, our police and justice system suck.

I feel like I’ve repeated myself. Sorry, behind me thinking about what to write is a big ass speaker playing Britney Spear’s I was born to make you happy.
