What are the Benefits of a Personal Web Portal?
Visited 572 Times Published by Rico November 23rd, 2007 in Internet and What.A while back, I decided to put up rico.mossesgeld.com. Aside from securing the “mossesgeld” domain for my own family (it helped that my last name isn’t as ubiquitous as say, Chua, Smith, or Alvarez), I wanted to create a personal web portal to help people make sense of my various online commitments. You probably know about The Bayanihan Blog Network, my two pro-blogs, and of course Fool for Five. Listing them every time I wanted to promote my online presence proved cumbersome at best.
My email signature, for instance, used to read:
–
The Bayanihan Blog Network (http://bayanihanblogs.com)
Answers questions at http://www.fool45.com
Writes about Smartphones and PDAs at http://thesmartpda.com
Helps freelancers at http://contract-worker.com
But, thanks to my personal web portal, it now reads:
–
rico.mossesgeld.com
I imagine that this setup also saves space on the business card.
What do you think? Got any personal web portals you want to share?

… or Cruz.
Heck, I’d love to do a domain hack, but http://cr.uz/ is already taken. Any suggestions for my name?
Before you suggest it though, http:://luiscruz.com/ is taken too.
Well, that’s what my codedgraphic.com domain is for. There’s nothing on the base domain right now, but I plan to make it into a portal next year. I also plan to put there a universal about me page linking to most of my online profiles (friendster, wikipedia, etc.) so stalkers can have an easier time. Hehehe.
I bought http://www.sophiajoyceuy.com way back and I don’t know what to do with it! Haha!
I thought, if ever I’d pursue makeup artistry I’d use it. Now I know it could also be a portal! haha!
I just bought it out of getting frustrated over not shopping for two weeks
Hey, you have lots of sites to feature! Get down and dirty and create links to them from sophiajoyceuy.com! Now! At the very least, you won’t be wasting your yearly domain fee!
You got a point there. I better check out my own name if it’s still available.
Hi! Having your own portal is an excellent idea. You only have to give 1 URL, even if you add other projects. Thanks for the inspiration. BTW it was a pleasure meeting you at Kape Isla last night.
Jozzua:Too late Ely. Some Canadian company beat you to Apao.com!
Carlos: Hey Carlos, good to hear from you! I do hope you’ve had fun at Kape Isla!
