Who are Calvin and Hobbes?
Visited 595 Times Published by Rico August 28th, 2006 in Internet and Who.Calvin is a six-year-old boy with an extensive vocabulary and limitless imagination. Hobbes is his stuffed tiger, alive in the eyes of Calvin, and always with a profound perpective on things. Through creator Bill Watterson’s strip Calvin & Hobbes, I’ve always enjoyed sharing their experiences, since I discovered the comic about 16 years ago.
Bill Watterson (a famously private person, although Jawbone was able to score an interview with his mom) went on permanent sabbatical and Calvin and Hobbes ended after 10 years of publication, back in 1995. I’ve literally grown up with this comic, and every time I see the last strip (pictured above) or read Watterson’s letter explaining why he stopped, I feel very very sad. Yet I’m also left with hope. As Calvin and Hobbes continue exploring and leading their colorful lives, so will I.
Words alone cannot convey the greatness that is Calvin & Hobbes. Discover the comic’s appeal with the Calvin & Hobbes Browser, which carries most of the strips and features a search function. May I suggest you search for “Calvinball” and “G.R.O.S.S.”?

Calvin and Hobbes are riots and I love reading their comic strips. It’s really so unfortunate that they’re named after two heretics: John Calvin and Thomas Hobbes
just how much do i love calvin and hobbes? check out my multiply site.

Angelo: Well, the Roman Catholic Church considers John Calvin a heretic because of his involvement in the Protestant reformation, and condemns Thomas Hobbes for his atheism.
Ron: Hey, nice layout on your Multiply. Which books do you have?
hmmmm… not much. i’m saving up to get the whole collection of c&h which cost around 6k at powerbooks. i dunno if you saw it already. its that big brown-chest-looking thing. since they’re on sale, it now costs 5k something.
Yes, I know The Complete Calvin & Hobbes. I also want a copy of it actually.
How much have you saved?
The last Calvin and Hobbes strip is almost as sad as the last Peanuts one
rico: not much. I just wrecked my car which wipe out whatever im gonna use to buy that thing.. oh well I have to wait for another sale.
yvonne: its not sad really. in the last strip it says, “let’s go exploring…” which is a very positive thing because there’s more to do in this world that what we’re used to
Yvonne: I agree with both you and Ron. It’s positive, but it’s still sad.
I remember watching an interview of late Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz. And he said his greatest regret was that Charlie Brown never got to kick the football…then he starts to break down and cry! Man, I really felt for him.

Ron: I just hope I can snag that coffee table book before the sale ends on Aug 31!
two days to go before aug 31! buy na!
Lend me the 2k I still need, and I’ll get it!
I only have 2 books!
I love calvin & hobbes.
Me too. I agree with this anonymous person reviewing The Complete Far Side:
*sigh*
i actually bought a couple of books already about manipulation because of my plans of world domination so i guess i won’t be buying c&h. maybe next time.
One of the best Comic Strips ever? Nay, THE best! C&H are the funniest pair out there
Yes TechZ, Calvin & Hobbes are THE best.
If I had to pick a number two though, Far Side is an automatic.
For a #2 spot, I’d lean towards Garfield or Peanuts myself.
Peanuts was also great! And since Schulz made over 50 years worth of strips, It’ll take my whole life to go through all of them.
#2? far side no question. for you to have one panel to work with and hit your jokes with just a statement is a stroke of genius.
That’s why I’m planning to get The Complete Calvin and Hobbes AND the The Complete Far Side.
I just wish the Far Side collection was complete; it only has strips until 1994.
