What Can We Learn From Michael Scofield?

If there’s one thing I hate about a well-made show like Prison Break, it’s that the writing team really knows how to exploit success. With genuinely surprising (at least for me) twists and prudent use of suspense, each episodes ends leaving me wanting more.
But I also think a lot of us can learn from Michael Scofield, the hero of the show.
Know What You Want. If you have a clear idea of what you want, then everything will fall into place. Michael Scofield clearly knew what he wanted: to get his older brother out of jail. Once he was sure of that, the plan started coming together.
Plan Really Well. One of the reasons why Michael succeeded (fictionally) in breaking out of Fox River Penitentiary was because he spent a year planning everything. His attention to detail paid off, particularly when he had to adapt his original plan to what was happening.
Accept That Something Will Go Wrong. In a world where many things are beyond our control, and especially in a prison environment, you must know that not everything will go your way. If you accept that, and make plans for any obstacle, you’ll have a better chance of succeeding.
Take it One Step at a Time. I’m sure saving your older brother from a conspiracy involving the most powerful people in the country may seem like an overwhelming task to anyone, but Michael concentrated on each task on his checklist. Got brother out of jail? Check. Saved your nephew? Check. Got the money you need to disappear? Pending.
And last but definitely not least…
Never Give Up. Michael is driven by his very sincere desire to save his brother. And I’m sure he knows that if he gives up at anytime, it’s all over. The lesson here is to never give up, because quitters will never achieve their goals.

You forgot this:
“Don’t cross a log with your best friend. Your best friend will inevitably fall into the river and get his foot trapped.”
Tee … seriously, only you could get something like this out of Michael ‘Blue Steel’ Schofield
Wait… Sucre getting trapped in a log? You watched the 8th episode of the 2nd season already?!? Haven’t seen it yet, hasn’t been shown here…
I hate you.
Ha ha, no, Prison Break doesn’t come out in Australia until next year! I’ve watched the entire second season online, chuck me an email if you’re curious …
“Accept That Something Will Go Wrong” — I should keep this in mind. Hay…
Yvonne: Thanks!

LJ: Huway dear?
i have the whole season 1 and the most recent episode from season 2. what can i say? I’m a fan.
Yvonne: that log thing i don’t get? wtf happened? you don’t just get “stuck” in the river! Why papi?
Well, if you’ve read the recap on Episode 8, Season 2, which I’ve linked to, you’ll see that Sucre got stuckwhen he was with Michael…
I find it hilarious how they were walking OVER the log, then Sucre fell INTO the river and somehow got his leg stuck UNDER the log. And then when he got freed by Flying Michael, he managed to run away without a limp.
Ah, TV, bless you and your complete breaks from reality …
It’s called suspension of disbelief my dear. And of course, if everything went perfectly on TV, there’d be nothing to watch.
Rico: yeah i know but you don’t just get “stuck” if you know what i mean. that’s just plain dumb.
Yvonne: you’re right. they just want to create some drama to the whole series. anyway its all good though. but if i were michael i’ll prolly leave papi alone.
he’s right. either he leave or they both get caught.
