Why Does the Terminator Look Like Arnold Schwarzenegger?

Ah-nold is best known for playing that killing machine. Relentlessly evil in Terminator 1, relentlessly heroic in Terminator 2. So why did Skynet decide that its master Infiltrator (it was designed to mix in with the human resistance and kill them from within after all) would look like an Austrian bodybuilder?

Here’s why:

A deleted scene from Terminator 3, for obvious reasons. :D Thanks to Ton for showing me this gem!

Edit: And to really answer the question, Lance Henriksen was initially cast as The Terminator, since he’s a “typical-looking male of average size,” not a big hulking juggernaut. But then James Cameron (the director) and William Wisher (a co-writer) decided Ah-nold would be better for the role, probably because a machine trying to look human would look that way. Henriksen became one of the cops slaughtered as The Terminator was forcing its way through a police station to find Sarah Connor.

I’ve actually always wanted to watch this scene. Despite the godawfulsequelandtheinevitablygodawful4thmovie.

Yeah I saw this on the DVD too.

It contradicts what was shown in T1 with the varying shaped Human-like Terminators. The Arnold model was probably just random. I’m so glad they ditched this scene.

Yvonne: Honestly, Ton-Ton showed me this deleted scene about a year ago, while he was playing that PS2 Terminator 3 game. :) Only now did I realize that someone uploaded it to YouTube.
Semaj: Well, I don’t really hate it (found it really funny), but I’m also glad they ditched it. It would’ve caused continuity issues left and right.
