Why is Spelling Important?

English, like any other language, depends on proper use to get its message across. Mix things up, and you have my favorite, unintentional humor! :D

So I guess the product’s a great deal; buy it and you can expect an iPod Shuffle! I’m reminded of my old Trackball’s box: WinMouse: Wins the way to Windows computing. :D

Like I said, I ain’t no Mr. Grammar. And I’m no Wordonista. But if you’re marketing a product to English-speakers, can’t you at least take the time to produce correct copy for the packaging? When trying to get your point across, spelling and grammar are paramount. Except in some situations of course.

To manufacturers out there, I’m offering my services as an editor. Check this out:

For all iPods, except the Shuffle.

Keep your iPod charged, while enjoying your music library on the road.

Being the root of all evil probably had nothing to do with it.*

*This is a slam against iPods, not Macs.

I’m not trying to slam Apple, you Mac-addict you. I just want these third-party manufacturers to get their package copy act together.

I’ve seen that time and time again. They’re also generally the cheaper version that will only last a little while or not work at all when you purchase. At least, that is my experience with products with misspelling on their packaging.

You have a good point there Nyssa. If a manufacturer can’t even go though the trouble of fixing up the text, why would he bother making a nice product? :)

My point exactly, Rico. In the end though, it’s about making money. Whether the product or the packaging works or not doesn’t seem to matter much as long as they’re getting that money. :P

And an Apple product mysteriously was chosen to demonstrate your point? Bah! :P

Nyssa: Yeah, but if they wanted to make REAL money, they’d take the time to make sure their packaging’s correct.

    Yvonne: It isn’t an Apple product; it’s a third-party manufacturer’s product! :P
